A Writer’s Life: A Celebration of Writing at UCSC
Sunday, May 1, 2011, UCSC Humanities Lecture Hall and Courtyard
UCSC’s 2011 Day by the Bay celebration will feature alumni writers—novelists, journalists, and screenwriters—coming together for a community event to focus on the joys and challenges of writing as a living, the business of writing, and trends for the future.
UCSC students and alumni and Santa Cruz community members are all welcome to this free event on Sunday, May 1, 2011.
Chancellor George Blumenthal will open A Writer’s Life, followed by a poetry reading by Poet Laureate of Santa Cruz County and UCSC alumnus and creative writing instructor, Gary Young, and then a keynote talk by alumnus David Talbot, founder of Salon.com and best-selling author of Brothers: The Hidden History of the Kennedy Years.
The rest of the day will feature interactive discussions with two different panels of writers, readings, and a book fair. The event will close with a reception wit the writers, hosted by the Dean of Humanities, Linguistics Professor Bill Ladusaw.
